Hello everyone,
By now, most of you should be familiar with my website. If you have trouble finding the information you need, please email me for instructions. You do not have to login or register to get any of the information.
I have posted grades online through the InTouch system. Please make sure you get a password from the front office. When you are looking at your grades, I use a few symbols that you will need to know. I * means that you have not turned in an assignment or made up the assignment. A / means that you turned in an assignment, but I have not graded it. I am weighting my grades this year with 50% tests and 50% everything else.
Again, welcome to my classes. Please communicate with me so that we can all avoid problems. I am looking forward to a really great year.

In writing, students will write an imaginative paper this six weeks. Students should focus their writing for this. I don’t want a lengthy story; it needs to be well written. I want students to work on quality, not quanity. In class, we have been working on identifying writing errors and correcting them.
I will be posting the roots 4 list, so please print your copy out soon and be studying in anticipation of the test the last week of the six weeks.
In the reading class, we are working on learning more skills and strategies to improve reading. Students have chosen an independent reading book to read.
We have developed a routine in these two classes, and it is running pretty smoothly. Both classes depend on participation of the students each day, so attending everyday is very important.
These classes are very focused on improving reading and writing skills.

We are starting a new books. Each class is reading a different book. Please keep your reading journal with a vocabulary list. There should be one entry for each of the assignments.
Per. 2 We are starting to read Hunger Games. I am creating a simulation to go along with this book, and it will be to your advantage to keep up with the reading. The page assignments are by chapters: 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-13, 14-16, 17-18, 19-20, 21-22, 23-24, 25, 26-27.
Per. 7 We are starting to read Freakonomics. It was on the best seller lists, but it may be a bit difficult to read. Because of this, I have broken it down into shorter amounts so that you can look up any words you don’t understand while you are reading. The page assignments are as follows: 1-15, 17-38, 38-51, 54-66, 66-80, 80-85, 87-99, 99-114, 115-124, 125-134, 134-145, 145-161, 161-176. If a page is listed twice, the large space between paragraphs is where you should stop and start again. Keep a vocabulary list in your journal.
To period 7 parents: We are not reading this book to change your child’s opinion or beliefs. We are reading it to make students think about how and why they believe the way they do about things. This should make their beliefs stronger. The book simply looks at things from the perspective of numbers.
